Back in the saddle again.......
I was down for a few days with a viral infection.
Sickness can be very instructive. There is a kind
of wisdom to it and then the happy moment when
you realize things are getting better.
At the Job Log there's a story about Business 2.0 and how they have shipped half their freelance jobs to India for the August issue. The editor doesn't believe it will be
a factor for a long-time and freelance writers should
not worry but I'm not sure about that. Certain types
of writing that depend on local flavor, sure. They
are not going to be shipped off-shore. But many types
of writing that are descriptions, how-to, information
extracted from reports and interviews, and so on
are vulnerable to all of this.
Read an article in the Boston Globe about poets who believe that publishing contests are rigged.
Someone has created a site called Foetry to deal with this. I know as an editor of a literary webzine that submissions can be hard to deal with. I know nothing about contests since we don't run any at
C/Oasis.
I was a judge for the Austin International
Poetry Festival but the reading was blind.
I'm running into new search engines. They seem to proliferate like insects during the summer heat. A couple that look promising are A9.com and Mooter.
Have fun!
